I can’t believe that school starts in less than a month down here in Florida and in September for a majority of others. It’s gone by way too fast but with the sadness of summer being almost over comes the excitement of some fall favorite’s like football, back to school shopping and for girls shopping for homecoming dresses! I have a bunch of boys so I don’t exactly have the pleasure of going out shopping for a pretty dress but I fondly recall my school dances and I do wish I had the selection girls have now a day. With a little savvy shopping, girls can buy a unique dress as opposed to the carbon copies I found lined in the boutique store fronts in Brooklyn, and most dresses today can be worn a ton of other times (if you don’t go too frilly).
Check out some tips on picking a unique homecoming dress under $200 that can be worn more than once. I also included some accessories and tips on what to wear them with below.
Look for little details like beading or tulle that make a dress look more expensive and can dressed up now or down later on.
I know girls love a floor length dress because it feels glamorous, but if you want to get the most for your dollar skip them. If not shop online shops for dresses under $100 and look for simple lines so they won’t quickly go out of style.
Avoid satin. Yes they look expensive and pretty but they also scream formal and most girls will have some form of satin on. Instead look for dresses in a matte jersey, with some tulle or if you have to have satin, look for ones with some ruching for a flirty feel.
This is where you can go all out! There’s a ton of affordable accessories out there so pile it on and have fun! Try big colorful necklaces for a fun pop of color; add sparkly jewelry to bright dresses or try some simple gold jewelry that you can wear over and over again.
Use online shoe stores to your benefit. It’s almost impossible not to find a pair of stylish shoes under $100 and in a lot of cases you can even get a second pair free or half off . But make sure you order early in case you need to exchange them.
Maxi dresses are a vital part of any woman’s stylish wardrobe, especially during the summer. The options are endless, but I have a weakness for a flowing white evening maxi dress (it has this boho goddess feel that just works!). Check out my favorite celeb looks and the dress for less.
I couldn’t just pick one celeb favorite but I did find one dress that was just gorgeous! The elaborate details on the evening dress make it look worth WAY more that just $120. What I particularly like about the dress is the detachable train that looks like something a modern day Stevie Nicks would wear on a red carpet.

There you have it two inspirations and one beautiful boho maxi dress now all you need is a pair of funky platforms, a clutch and you’re good to go!
Besides my kids excitement for Easter egg hunts and candy filled baskets, I always try to fit in a little Easter outfit shopping for myself. The kids generally stick to the traditional themed attire for the day, but for me the Easter outfit consists of a functional dress that allows me look stylish while also participating in the egg hunt and other festivities. I also try to pick a dress that can be worn all through spring and preferably even summer. This Easter I’ll be wearing a lace shift dress and flats to keep me comfy all day! Check out some of the pretty spring dresses from Target below that are perfect for Easter.
A dainty lace dress similar to the one I’m wearing above is feminine enough for day or night.
This seersucker dress screams spring and is pretty much a no brainer. It’s sort of a grown up version of a little girls Easter outfits. :) Wear with a light cardigan and pumps for a traditonal spring look.
Any dress with pockets is alright with me! This floral dress for only $24.99 is one of those dresses that can be worn all year round. It can be paired with a pair of wedges on Easter morning or a blazer and tights for work.
A tulip wrap dress with a retro floral print plus a denim jacket is flawless! Pair with bright heels for a sexy vibe.
Get a celeb worthy look like Naomi Watts’ with this white shift dress. Shift dresses are so flattering and never ever go out of style.

A little black dress is a closet staple but a little black dress that’s also a skirt and minimizes my waist and midriff is just genius! When I first got the Sassybax Convert-A-Skirt I immediately worried that it was going to be one of those suffocating fabrics – but it’s not. Sure it’s snug, but just snug enough to slim all the right spots. The more you play around with it the better it looks and what totally had me hooked was how when I realized that it held up the “little girls” and we all know that’s not an easy task. I wouldn’t say I would be able to go braless in it BUT any strapless bra would do (unlike other strapless dresses without support where I have to search high and low for maximum support). I’m obsessed with this dress! The fabric is a matte black making it super easy to dress up or down. It stays put which is important for me because I plan on wearing it on the dance floor and it’s machine washable. I could go son and on! It’s the perfect dress to pack on any vacation, for a night out on the town or under a blazer for a sexy office look. For more info on Sassybax’s Convert A Skirt visit www.sassybax.com

Cooler weather means I get to layer! My favorite piece to layer, and the easiest one, has always been my army green anorak from Ross (also seen here). I wear it every chance I get and believe it or not the army green color can be used as a neutral making it super easy to incorporate into many outfits. This time I decided to pair my anorak with my striped dress for a day time look that I easily dressed up by removing the jacket, adding animal print heels and turning belt around.

For the most part New Year’s consists of something sparkly, short or sexy – all of which are just fine but this year why not try something a little unconventional? Below are 3 ideas for an outfit that’s not tight, short or even sparkly - we can leave that all up to the jewelry!
Anyone can wear a mini but it takes someone with style to rock a chic floor length maxi! Pair it with a cropped blazer for a dressy effortless feel, and metallic heels for sex appeal.
I love the idea of black and white for New Year’s, so why not try adding white heels to an all black pant suit or a sexy black off-the-shoulder sweater and leggings.
Stripes are a classic and totally unconventional for New Year’s and that’s what makes it cool! Try a striped sweater dress with black opaque tights and red heels for a dressy yet still easy-to-wear look (and it’ll never go out of style!).
You really cant wrong with sequins – whether it’s for a prom or just a fun night out – they instantly give off a magical, princess-like vibe that dominated the Spring 2013 runways and will never go out of style. One of my favorite stars that’s the perfect example off how magical sequins can make you look and feel is Taylor Swift. With her trademark ruby red lips, she’s rocked the sequins on many red carpets and always looks flawless! Tip: For a little more glamour and edge, add metallic heels (another huge trend) and a black clutch… and keep the jewelry simple! The dress will do all the work. Last week I spent some time in my hometown of New York visiting family and enjoying the cool fall weather in cozy sweaters, warm gloves and tons of layers! From a fashion standpoint the balmy temperature of Florida (where I live full time) definitely limits the options. Not only do I love to layer, but the holiday’s seem more like a holiday when its cold outside! Hoping I can make it back to New York soon to see some snow and bundle up!

There’s nothing better than a dress in a pretty shade of yellow to make your summer days even brighter. These five are the “thrown-on-the-go” kind that every woman needs in their closet. Tip: Choose classic shapes like a shift dress, wrap, maxi or a simple tank dress…they’re the most flattering and withstand any trend ( I don’t know about you but I like to pull out my summer dresses every year and get the most out of them). Pair them with cobalt heels for an extra punch of color; flip flops for a effortless feel; or classic wedges.

Lace has been on-trend for what seems like forever, and it’s still going strong. We all have it in our wardrobes; if you haven’t where have you been? So the lace trend must be getting a bit tired by now. Except this Spring/Summer lace has been reworked to give a fresh, new perspective to an exhausted and overworked trend. And this all starts with dresses!
Lace dresses were seen in a huge number of variations and colors on the Spring/Summer catwalks. All unique, creating what seemed like a brand new trend all over again. There is one major difference between the lace we already own and this new lace. The key to wearing lace next season is to opt for over-sized, bold patterns or Broderie Anglaise. If you remember one thing about this classic trend, remember that delicate, vintage lace has been replaced by bold, quirky patterns. This is a trend you can really have fun with!
Pattern is key, but color is still crucial to this trend next season. Be inspired by Louis Vuitton and get in on the pastels trend with candy hued dresses in spearmint green or pale yellow. Or opt for vibrant, eye popping brights in primary colors. But if you’d prefer a more understated shade to let the lace do the talking, try navy as an on-trend alternative. For example, this tiered scalloped lace dress from ASOS for $80.57 is perfect for summer evenings!
If you’re looking for something a bit different and less girly, try over-sized lace tees or lace pants for a more masculine vibe. There is a huge selection of dresses and other lace pieces available both on the high street and online. So whatever colors you choose, whether it’s white or nudes, pastels, eye popping brights or deep, dark blue make sure the lace you choose is bold and quirky!
