Plaid Skirt Two Ways

Summer plaids can be down right flirty and fun if worn with the right pieces.  The idea is to keep it fuss free and a little unconventional.  Pair your plaids with bright colors, bold accessories and ditch your traditional sandals for flat espadrilles or sneaks. I paired the adorable handkerchief hem skirt from Yesstyle.com with two different blazers.  One is a more nautical look and the other a trendier version.  Both looks can be worn for day or night and easily taken apart and worn many ways. Tip:  avoid tight fits – plaids are meant to be casual and easy to wear even if it’s a dress or skirt.

Handkerchief Hem Plaid Skirt – $88  | Two Tone Camisole – $40 | Smart Blazer - $90 | Leather Platforms  - $100 | Tote – $165

Handkerchief Hem Plaid Skirt - $88 | Cropped Blazer – $100 | Tee - $18 | Statement Necklace - $48 | Sam Edelman Allie Heels – $104 | Clutch – $155

Dream Believe Achieve

When summer rolls around down here in Florida it comes with inhuman heat and humidity, which only wreaks havoc on my hair (even after an hour in front of a hairdryer I still end up with frizzy hair)!  So lately I’ve been air drying to camouflage the frizz and although I am not 100 percent sold on it, it’s easy to do. I use the hanna thermal protectant oil and Sally Hershberger Shagg Spray that I found for only $2.99 at Ross to get a piece-y look and it works great.  Along with the big hair that I to call “beachy waves” I like to keep my outfits easy and comfy as well.  I tend to keep my focus on tops because bottoms always consist of cut off shorts, a cotton mini or rolled up jeans.  Every year I get on a new kick: last year I was all about asymmetrical tanks and this year it’s graphic tees.   I got this one from Shopbop and although a little bit more than I usually pay for tee, it’s totally worth it!  It’s got a roomy fit which is perfect for summer; the length makes it look like a perfectly worn-in mens tee and my favorite part is the length of the sleeves – its just long enought to be able to give it a nice roll if I’m in the mood too.

What I’m Wearing:

Pointy Toe Pumps (also seen here) – $25.50 from Charlotte Russe

White Hot Heels

I’ve always been a bit iffy about white shoes.  Everytime I see a pair I immediately think of John Travolta in Saturday Night Fever.  :)  These white heels with a metallic cap toe are however a totally different story and now have me loving white heels.  The metallic (which I’m totally obsessed with for spring) gives the white heels a edgier feel that I love and at only $19.99 how could I resist!  Below is a quick denim on denim look I pulled together and some of my favorite white heels available online (I bought mine at a local Tampa boutique) and under $100.

What I’m Wearing:

White Cap Toe Heels – $19.99 at Local Boutique

Skinny Jeans – $34.99 at Charlotte Russe I LOVE the way their jeans fit!

Floral Chambray Top – $5 at T.J. Maxx (also seen here)

Michelle Valle convertible bag c/o meetmark.com (also seen here)

Ankle Strap Heels – $94.99 at Heels.com

Stylish Cravings: Hot Pants

May 6, 2013 by
Filed under Fashion Tips & Finds

I love me a pair of hot pants!  For the most part I wear them at night but during  the day I pair them over opaque tights. This summer I’m going to be brave and bare legged and go for the sexy look.  When I was little I saw tons of pictures of my mom rocking hot pants before she had kids and I never thought I could pull it off (she’s way tinier than me in every aspect).  She would either wear them with turtle necks and platforms and other times with a pretty blouse and boots – and she always managed to make it look classy and chic.  It’s a trend for the bold but if worn with the right pieces it can definitely be pulled off.  Check out some of my favorite outfits I’ve gathered for inspirations and some affordable options from Forever 21.

Tip: When looking for your pair of hot pants look for simple cuts and preferably solid colors.  High waisted are my favorite they are more forgiving and look more feminine.  The idea is to get a leggy look so if you want to go a tad longer in length, go higher in heels and you will get the same effect.

Celebrity Copycat: Jessica Stroup’s Look for Less!

I know not everyone is going to agree with me on this one but I love this hippie/cowgirl look on Jessica Stroup who’s wearing a H&M conscious exclusive lace dress .  It has that coachella feel that would be perfect if it was just tad shorter, so I went ahead and picked out a variety of lace dresses and boots to compensate. Tip: Looking to refine the look but still keep it funky?  Try a pair of brightly colored pumps and a blazer for the shorter dresses or black booties for the longer versions.

Embroidered Dress – $299 at HM.com | Crotchet Dress - $96 at Topshop.com | Western Booties – $49.95 at DSW.com | Beaded Messenger Bag – $64.95 at Shopmango.com
